Cycles of Inspiration

Thu Jun 4, 2009, 2:20 PM
Lately I'm finding I spend more time studying and making artwork. My job is already very creative, but I increasingly feel like I could and should be doing more. I see so many brilliant artists out there and I feel a sense of respect and profound artistic hunger. I've recently been finding myself somewhat repelled by the many "pass-times" that our western society saturates us with; things that offer packaged entertainment or menial satisfaction but leave no lasting growth or accomplishment. It's not to say I'm going to smash my TV and never touch a video game again, but I do feel I want to spend more time learning and exploring art in every medium and style I can.

Since my "day job" takes a lot of my time, I have to squeeze in drawing and painting and such where I can. In a way it has become a reward for me. If I accomplish a lot of work in a day, then I can treat myself to a bit of time spent on a painting or drawing. I like attitude because it increases my productivity all around. And it's fun! I have several projects in the works right now and I'll post them when I can. I hope maybe my art will occasionally inspire others as much as so many artists are inspiring me.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of the Universe. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the glory of the Universe that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - lightly paraphrased from Marianne Williamson
